Three small explosions were heard near the center of Bakersfield High School Monday morning, prompting an evacuation of campus and the cancellation of afternoon classes, the Bakersfield Fire Department said.
As of 1 p.m., parents were urged to pick up students at 14th and F streets.
There were no injuries reported.
There was no word from the Kern High School District about what happened, or what effect the events would have on Tuesday’s classes.
Parents said the school went on lockdown at about 11:30 a.m. after "small explosions" were heard in three different areas of campus.
The evacuation was ordered an hour later as a fire department hazmat team swept through the central Bakersfield campus.
