Bakersfield, Ca. --Kern County District Attorney Lisa Green tells 17 News her office will conduct an independent review of the in-custody death of inmate David Silva, once the Sheriff's Department and the FBI conclude their investigations.

Green sat down with reporter Kelsey Thomas and made the following statements.

"We had made the decision to review it, prior to the Sheriff's press conference. We came to that decision on our own, under the authority that I have as the chief law enforcement officer in the county.

Frankly, most of the people don't know very much about this case and I think they look to the office, for us to, reach a just result. We will review it and come to whatever conclusion we come to.

I just think that this is the case the citizens of the county don't really know a lot about other than what's come out in the media and they look to this office and me to exercise our discretion and review it and that's what we're going to do .

Our review will be to see if there's any violation of state law. I have not seen one report. I actually have not watched any of the videos which have been out there and so it's hard for me to speculate what that might mean.

I think that people have a lot of questions and it's incumbent on me, the district attorney, to look at this and hopefully everyone's questions will be answered after our review is concluded."

There will be more information on this story on 17 News at 5 & 6.
