Many voters wasted no time casting their ballots before Election Day.
“We thought it would be less busy today,” says Gary Hubl, an early voter. “But, it is very busy right now.”
Hubl is one of close to 95,000 local vote-by-mail voters, who dropped his ballot off at the Elections Office early.
“My wife and I wanted to make sure our vote counted,” he says. “So, we decided I should drop this off at lunch today and made sure we met the 8:00 deadline.”
It's too late to mail in your ballot. County Elections officials say a postmarked ballot doesn't count if it's not there by 8 p.m. on Election Day. But, you can drop off your ballot at any Kern County polling place.
If you don't know your polling place, you can call the County Election's Office or see a full list of locations on its website. If you plan to vote Tuesday, do you know what to bring?
“If it's your first time voting in a Federal election and you registered by mail or online, meaning you didn't present yourself to register to vote. then you'll be required to show identification," says Karen Rhea, Division Chief for County of Kern Elections.
If you registered in person, you don't have to show any I.D. And, if you messed up your ballot and need a new one, you can get one at any polling place.
With 332,000 registered Kern County voters, the Elections Office says it will have staff helping voters throughout Election Day.
"Tomorrow, we're going to have a curbside drop-off between the Administration Building and Rabobank,” Rhea says. “People can just drive through and drop off their ballot and be on their way."
If you still need to drop off your ballot, you can from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. when polls are open.
