The President accepted the win from Chicago and says he is ready for another term.
"With your stories and your struggles, I return to the White House more determined and more inspired than ever about the work there is to do and the future that lies ahead," said President Obama.
His re-election comes after a nail-biting night of returns. The President defended his home turf and won several critical swing states - including Ohio - pushing him over the 270 electoral vote mark.
He had been in a statistical dead-heat with challenger Mitt Romney, who conceded the race Wednesday morning.
"I so wish, I so wish I had been able to fulfill your hopes to lead country to different direction, but the nation chose another leader," said Romney.
Accepting a loss, Romney's supporters are now looking ahead, hoping for new solutions in the next four years.
