BAKERSFIELD - Rifle-toting Bakersfield police officers surrounded a south Bakersfield motel Tuesday afternoon in the search for a man and woman wanted in last week's double homicide and robbery at a pot shop.

Officers came up empty-handed at the Howard Johnson motel off White Lane. They did not find 32-year-old Aaron Burris.

But just feet away from our camera, they pulled over a car with several people they thought might be connected to the case. Officers say the three people in the car were seen leaving a room where they thought the suspects were hiding. But, it turns out the man and two women in the car were not connected to the case.

The man in the car, 30-year-old Jason T. Ruffus, was taken into custody on an unrelated narcotics warrant.

Officers and detectives clad in bulletproof vests also searched through a second-story room where Burris was thought to have been spotted. Officers were following up on a tip.

But, the room was empty.

The shooting happened last Wednesday at First Reliable, a medical marijuana shop in the 200 block of Chester Avenue.

23-year-old Devin Daniels and 55-year-old Tony Sherman were killed.

The Secret Witness program is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and filing of charges against 32-year-old Aaron Burris, a known gang member.

They're also looking for a woman seen in surveillance video.

The Secret Witness program is offering a reward of up to $10,000. You can remain anonymous by calling 322-4040.
