BAKERSFIELD - An exotic pet bird who spread her wings a little too far, is back home with her owner in Bakersfield.
The large parrot was on the loose for three days and created quite a scene Tuesday outside Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.
The colorful blue and gold Macaw was perched in a tree, and when a hospital worker tried to capture it, it slipped away but didn't fly far.
Bakersfield fire crews were called in to grab the parrot from a second tree nearby.
One firefighter climbed up, draped the bird with a sheet, grabbed it and brought it down.
"I just wanted to kinda gage it, see where it was at, was it going to be combative or was it going to be calm and just let me catch it. Pretty much just like me, wondering what's going on with something like this," said firefighter Ben Henggler.
The bird was brought to Fur and Feathers Luxury Pet Resort in Bakersfield.
The owner saw our report and was soon reunited with the one-year-old female Macaw named 'Tikki'.
Jen Marble says Tikki flew away Saturday after being brought outside. She says her family is glad to have their bird back.
