BAKERSFIELD-Two men were shot dead by Bakersfield Police, following a traffic stop that ended in the east parking lot of the Four Points Sheraton in southwest Bakersfield early Monday.
Two officers also were injured. One officer sustained a moderate gunshot wound to his head. The injury did not appear to be life-threatening, said BPD spokeswoman Michaela Sims. Another officer sustained a minor injury unrelated to the gunfire.
Officers attempted to stop the car around 12:34 a.m. on California Avenue, the BPD reported.
The shootout occurred a short time later, though Sims could not say what precipitated the confrontation, including why the car was stopped. The BPD did not disclose if any guns were collected as part of evidence.
Both men in the car were struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers were not seeking any other suspects, the BPD reported.
