Bakersfield- The fried food, rides, and animals are all back for the 88th annual "The Best in the West" Kern County Fair. The fair starts Wednesday at 1 p.m and is in Bakersfield until September 29.
Each year, fair staff try to out do themselves with more fried delicious food for fair goers and new attractions.
"We have the vertigo ride in the carnival lot. We have the frisbee dogs. We have the pariot show. She's had the act here many years ago and she's bringing it back. A lot of people are attracted to the birds," said Mike Olcott the CEO of the Kern County Fair.
The public will notice a new idea before even stepping onto the fair grounds.
"Our own security here on the fairgrounds is going to be implementing at all the gates a bag check. This is something new this year. They do this at a lot of other fairs," said Olcott.
Fair staff are expecting more than 370,000 people over the course of the fair. They say the weather is also in their favor.
"I think with the weather holding, and Kevin's going to give me a good word on that. Kevin Charrette I hope you got good weather for me. It's going to be cooler than normal" said Olcott.
