BAKERSFIELD - New details emerged Wednesday in the Four Points Sheraton hotel parking lot shooting early Monday morning, where Bakersfield Police officers shot and killed two suspects.
The department revealed one of the suspects, Justin Bryan Harger, was a parolee wanted by local law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service for assault with a deadly weapon.
Responding officers stopped his vehicle in the Sheraton parking lot at California Avenue and Mohawk Street.
They say Harger and his passenger, Jorge Joel Ramirez, exited the vehicle and Harger fired at responding officers first.
Officers returned fire and killed Harger and Ramirez.
Officer Daniel Brewer sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to a local hospital.
Officer Rick Wimbish suffered a minor leg injury unrelated to the shooting.
Police recovered Harger's firearm at the scene.
Harger's previous convictions include: possession of a controlled substance, felony evading officers, transporting a controlled substance, forgery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Ramirez's prior convictions include: possession of a controlled substance for sale, carrying a loaded firearm in public and multiple domestic violence convictions.
Ramirez had a criminal protective order placed against him and was on parole for possession of stolen property.
