The California City Police Department was investigating the death of a 2-year-old child discovered by the side of the road.
The call came in around 7:17 a.m. Wednesday at California City Boulevard and Neuralia Road.
"Details are sketchy," said California City Police Commander Jimmy Rubio Wednesday morning. "But we believe a male subject got onto the regional bus earlier in the morning carrying a child bundled up and exited the bus around the area."
"A regional transit bus driver later found the child by the side of the road," he continued.
It was unclear if it was the same driver who spotted the man and child, or another bus driver taking the same route, Rubio said.
It also was not immediately clear if the child was a boy or a girl, Rubio said, because the child's body was left undisturbed pending an investigation.
