SHAFTER, CA -- Shafter Community Corrections Facility is about to re-open holding state inmates.

That means a economic boost to the community as well as easing prison overcrowding.

Shafter City Manager John Guinn says the plan will bring 680 inmates from state prisons. It'll also bring 86 jobs to Shafter and more than $65 million over the next five years and much of that money going to educational programs.

"You know the facility is an asset to the community it's nice to be able to put it to use rather than have it just sat there and it's an asset to the state of California," said John Guinn, City Manager for Shafter.
