LAX airport bus back in service

BAKERSFIELD, CA-- A new bus service from Bakersfield to LAX started Sunday morning after the previous airport bus stopped running in August due to lack of riders. This service is run by a company back east called Interstate Bus Lines and will offer six trips a day leaving Bakersfield.

It was a bit confusing for new passengers since Interstate did not have a representative on site nor were any signs posted to direct passengers.

"Why isn't there a sign,” said Regina Hoelscher. “I could do without an office right at the beginning at least there should have been a representative here giving comments as to what is going on."

17 News talked to Interstate owner Joel Azumah on the phone and said he is trying to hire staff as quickly as possible and hopes to have an office in Bakersfield soon. Azumah said right now he is focusing on making sure the buses run on time.

Azumah hired a company based in Visalia called Classic Charter to run the buses. They are modern and plush and one lady who flew back from Maui to LAX was pleased with the service.

"It was very good,” Linda Mortimer said. “It went around to every terminal, one to seven. A little time consuming but fine. Everybody can't be at one terminal. It was excellent."

Interstate's website suggests the pick up location was the Golden Empire Transit bus stop on Truxtun between Q and S Streets but it looks like they are stopping in front of the Beale Library for now.

The cost may be slightly higher than the old service since you can only purchase one-way tickets and one way ticket costs 32 dollars. You can purchase tickets online or pay the driver if you have exact fare. Passengers say they're happy to have the convenience of an airport bus back in town.
