BAKERSFIELD, CA- Bakersfield Police responded to a domestic violence call Sunday morning in Southeast Bakersfield that ended with an officer shooting and killing one man.

According to police, two officers approached a home in the 5200 block of San Mateo Drive.

They were confronted by Jaspal Singh, 45, of Bakersfield with a gun, pointed directly at them.

"Upon arriving on scene officers were encountered with a male subject with a gun the subject pointed the gun at the officers," said Detective Todd Farnsworth with the Bakersfield Police Department.

Detectives said as soon as Singh pointed his revolver at officer, one officer quickly fired five shots, hitting Singh.

He was taken to Kern Medical Center where he was pronounced dead minutes later.

The incident will have a lasting impact on neighbor Bryan Orton.

"We saw the ambulance come, they (were) doing compressions on the individual,” Orton said. “So we were just concerned with the person that just lost their life."

No officers were injured in the incident and the officer that fired the shots has been placed on a customary administrative leave, pending a full investigation.
