If you’re traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday, you’re not the only one.

More than 43 million Americans are hitting the road or the air this weekend, according to Triple A.

And traveling could either be a breeze or a nightmare depending on who well you’re prepared.

Gas prices have dropped by about 70 cents in the last month in the Bakersfield area.

Great news for drivers, but that also means there’s likely going to be some extra traffic on the road.

"I'm pleased that they're coming down, they're not coming down fast enough,” said Glen Cashwheeler, who was filling up his vehicle.

"If it's around four dollars a gallon, we're pretty good with that,” said Sonja Reyna, who also was filling up her vehicle.

So are a lot of Southern California drivers, about 3.4 million are hitting the road this weekend, according to Triple A.

And if you want to beat the traffic, plan ahead.

"Avoid Tuesday afternoon and evening, Wednesday afternoon and evening and of course the return traffic anytime on Sunday,” said Chere Smith, the Bakersfield Branch manager for Triple A.

And no matter where you’re driving, the California Highway Patrol says expect some construction.

"There's an ongoing construction project that's going on over the Grapevine. It's on the south end, northbound side of Interstate 5. We also have construction zones all throughout California,” said Robert Rodriguez of the California Highway Patrol.

Want to know if your route has any problems, there’s a number of apps and websites for smart phones for that as well as traffic hazards and accidents.

"Those are updated very frequently. We want to make sure you have the most updated information for your travels,” Rodriguez said.

What about if you’re flying?

Airport officials say flights will be almost 100% full.

"Plan to be at the airport an hour and a half before your scheduled take-off,” said Jack Gotcher, Director of the Kern County Airports.

And if you have questions about what you can bring or if there’s delays, the TSA has an app for that.

"It'll give some rules and some things you can do. I go to it when people call and say can I bring this?" Gotcher said.

And one more air travel tip, if you have holiday gifts, consider shipping them ahead of time. It could save some time and money at the airport.
