BAKERSFIELD, CA- We are saddened to report the passing of one of Bakersfield's beloved restauranteurs. Family members at Uricchio's Trattoria in Downtown Bakersfield confirm that the restaurant's founder, Nick Uricchio, passed away Sunday.
Nick Uricchio actually moved to Bakersfield in 1994 to retire. But his son Steve and daughter Claire convinced him to start up one last restaurant and they would help him run it.
In 1995, Uricchio's Trattoria opened for business downtown. The wonderful Italian cuisine and first-rate service quickly made Uricchio's one of the city's premiere eating establishments.
The affable patriarch was a favorite among his patrons, always making time for a chat, a special appetizer and some kind words as they dined in his restaurant.
Nick Uricchio had 40 years of restaurant and fine-dining experience in West Hartford, Connecticut and later in Beverly Hills before coming here in 1995.
He passed away Sunday with family at his side after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Nick Uricchio was 87.
