BAKERSFIELD, CA- A public meeting was held Tuesday night in Downtown Bakersfield to find the best way to deal with the pet overpopulation problem in Kern County.
Kern County Supervisors Leticia Perez and David Couch are part of a special committee, charged with designing a comprehensive, county-wide spay and neuter program.
Tuesday night, they along with animal advocates and others from the community, discussed options for reducing the number of unwanted animals in kern county.
Chairwoman Perez said the group came up with a $250,000 spending plan, which includes $100,000 for a voucher program and $50,000 for mobile spay-neuter clinics.
"Everybody had something great to say. Everybody has a little bit different way of doing things, and if we can put it altogether and work together, it'll make the problem less," said Carol Newkirk with the Unity Thrift and Outreach.
The areas targeted would include Oildale, East Bakersfield, Arvin and Lamont.
The proposal goes before the full board of supervisors January 28.
