BAKERSFIELD, CA - A pit bull with a reputation for terrorizing an east Bakersfield neighborhood, was shot and killed Wednesday after it mauled a 12-year-old dog.
Law enforcement officers say this isn't the first time they've been called to Los Robles Drive for a dog attack.
Over the past several months, they say the pit bull and a German shepherd have escaped their yard a street over and viciously attacked other dogs.
The latest victim is 12-year-old Spanky, also a pit bull. The old dog was in his yard with his buddy Tiger when, officers say, the attacking pit bull and German shepherd broke into the yard.
Spanky suffered bite wounds to his ears and head, he was also bitten in the stomach.
"A relative of the owner of the victim dog had to come over and shoot one of the dogs, and then the other dog ran away and got away," said Sgt. Dustin Downey, Kern County Sheriff's Department.
That dog, a German shepherd, was captured by Animal Control.
Spanky's owners took him to a veterinarian to be treated.
The Sheriff's Department tells us no charges will be filed against the relative who shot and killed the pit bull.
No word on what will happen to the German shepherd and whether its owner will be cited.
