LAMONT, CA -- Statistics say one in four students in the U.S. have an undiagnosed vision problem and a special group of volunteers are working to correct that problem. "So what you are going to do is you are going to put your chin right here make sure this touches your forehead."
This is what was happening inside the One-Sight Vision van in Lamont. Children whose families can't afford eye exams and glasses got them for free. One-Sight partnered with Kern County's Advanced Center for Eye Care for the week long vision clinic.
It was a one stop shop, leaving the kids a brand new pair of glasses and a whole new look at things. "What we know is that 80% of what kids learn is visual, says Dawn Yager, One sight vision. "So a lot of the times children are labeled as slow learners or they are labeled as disruptive in the classroom. Our mission today(Monday) is to make sure those children have the tools necessary that they need. Which is a pair of eye glasses," says Justin Cave. "So coming here right to where the kids are providing them with these services really sets them up for success."
This vision clinic saw about 80 children and if the children need follow up visits they are done at the Advanced Center for Eyecare office in Bakersfield.
