BAKERSFIELD, CA -- A man who took a plea deal in connection with the death of a three-year-old Taft girl was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years to life in prison.

Last month, Eric Foster entered a no contest plea to first degree murder for the death of Trinity Hanna. In exchange for his plea the charges of torture, willful cruelty to a child and lewd acts with a child under 14 were dismissed.

The toddler died in January 2012. Deputies say Foster beat, scalded and slammed Hanna on a coffee table. And her mother didn't report the abuse to authorities. "He was such a liar, he is nothing but a sociopath, and has no morals and no conscience.  We were all sucked into him and he really took advantage of what we had to offer him," says Shirley Vickrey, Hanna's great grandmother.

Last March, the girl's mother Angela Hanna was sentenced to ten years in prison.
