BAKERSFIELD, CA- The Bass Pro Shops planned for a shopping center in Southwest Bakersfield is a no-go at this point.
Company officials confirm the deal is off for now, but said the company is still interested in opening a store in Bakersfield at some point.
Six years ago we first reported that the company intended to build a 150,000 sq. ft. super outdoor store in Bakersfield at Hosking Avenue and Highway 99.
One of the big hurdles for the project is a freeway interchange at Hosking Road and Highway 99.
Development of that interchange is moving forward.
City Councilman Russell Johnson told 17 News a year ago the interchange is needed to alleviate traffic congestion in that part of town.
Bass Pro Shops' spokeswoman, Tammy Sapp sent 17 News a statement Thursday morning.
It said, "we did announce a project in Bakersfield some years ago but unfortunately the project never materialized. We have always been interested in Bakersfield and with regards to any future projects in that area. We always look forward to reviewing and considering any opportunities that may become available."
