BAKERSFIELD, CA- The Kern County Superintendent of Schools is looking to hire more teachers. Two pieces of legislation, now in effect, are bringing more money to California schools and what they do with it is up to each district.
K-12 schools will get $4.8 billion more this year from personal income tax increases under Proposition 30.
Also, the new local control funding formula gives districts more say on how money is spent, based on their students needs.
Education Services Assistant Superintendent Desiree Von Flue said some of the money will be used to hire more teachers.
"They are bringing back some of the programs that they lost over the last few years, with budget cuts. They are taking a look at class sizes and also dealing with the annual adjustment that any school faces; retirement, transfers, those types of things," said Von Flue.
The Kern County Superintendent of Schools is holding a recruitment fair at the end of the month.
Officials said they're looking for people who have their teaching credentials or are intern ready. They say 35 of the 47 districts in our county are participating.
The recruitment fair is April 26 from 8 a.m. until noon at the Larry E. Reider Education Center located at 2000 K Street.
You can register until 5 p.m. on April 20th. However, the event is open at 10:30 a.m. the day of the event to anyone who didn't sign up.
