SHAFTER, CA -- The wife of a man who was killed in a crash east of Shafter has filed a wrongful death claim against the County of Kern.
Kenneth Leon Stallings, 56, died in a single-vehicle accident on November 27, 2013. The crash took place on Zerker Road near Lerdo Highway.
Stallings' truck veered off the roadway, over a ditch, and into an orchard, investigators said. The truck then struck an almond tree, killing Stallings on impact.
The claim alleges there was a six-inch drop from the roadway to the dirt shoulder, and indicates Stallings' truck hit that gap and lost control. Stallings' wife claims the county created a hazardous situation and is seeking unspecified financial damages.
