CHP looking for candidates to Explorer program

BAKERSFIELD, CA -- The Bakersfield office of the California Highway Patrol is looking for candidates for its Explorer program. 

Organizers say the program is a unique and challenging opportunity that allows young men and women, ages 15-21 to be part of the Department’s operations.

Explorers are trained in many aspects of law enforcement and will work with officers in the field as they patrol the streets and highways of California.

Explorer activities will include: Ride along with officers in the field, assisting with DUI checkpoints, traffic control, community service, physical fitness training, medical training, organize fundraisers and competitions.

Minimum Requirements:
•Must be between 15-21 years
•Must have at least a 2.0 GPA
•No drug or alcohol use
•Good citizenship
•No felony convictions
•Interest in law enforcement

CHP officials say successful completion of the Explorer program will open many doors and will present many opportunities for the youth of tomorrow, especially for an Explorer who is planning to make the CHP a career. Explorers have gone on to attain their college degrees, enter service with the FBI and Secret Service, attend military academies, or move into other law enforcement or public service careers.
