BAKERSFIELD, CA - An update on several new local Walmart locations in various stages of progression after some confusion on a local anti-Walmart Facebook page.

New retailers will soon fill the empty lot at the corner of Olive and Calloway Drives, but planning officials said as of now, plans don't show a Walmart going in here.

Permit Center Principal Planner Paul Hellman said the commission approved a 150,000 sq. foot retail center. A 42,000 sq. foot grocery store is in the site plan. The planning commission won't know what businesses are applying for the space until signed permit applications are submitted.

Hellman said building permits have not yet been issued. At this time, it's unknown what retailers will fill this vacant lot in the future.

As for other Walmart plans in the area, company spokeswoman Delia Garcia said Walmart is hiring for local jobs for a new location in Oildale.

It's accepting applications for 95 associates at its new Neighborhood Market that is slated to open this fall at North Chester and Day Avenues in Oildale.

The company is accepting applications at its temporary hiring center at 1129 Olive Dr., Suite D Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In February, a Walmart spokesperson said plans for a Supercenter on Olive Dr. in north Bakersfield were in the early planning stages.

When we spoke with Garcia Wednesday, she said other than the Oildale location, the company doesn't have an additional stores in the works.

She also says the store on Rosedale Highway is expanding to a Supercenter.
