A local disabled veteran will be able to move around her home more comfortably, thanks to a team of volunteers who performed a number of home repairs.
Virginia Walton began doing the repairs herself a few years ago, but her home project was halted after she suffered a medical condition.
But Saturday, the project resumed, as Home Depot volunteers in partnership with the Wounded Heroes Fund, transformed her home.
"I started remodeling this place about four years ago. Then, I had a stroke and so, I don't have the right side of my body under control," said Virginia Walton.
The volunteers installed $5,000 worth of home equipment including a new front door, kitchen cabinets, toilets and a new faucet.
"This is just something that the Home Depot is really passionate about. We love to go out to the community and help. We're always open to any veteran that needs help," said Amanda Riley, team captain.
Walton was a truck driver in the Army in the 1970's.
She then used her GI bill to go to school to become a registered nurse.
Walton has been at her Taft home for seven years and says she desperately needed the repairs.
"I am delighted. I know that it's good people in this world. I'm kind of glad that I found a few," said Walton.
If you are a veteran in need home repairs, call the Home Depot on Gosford Road at 661-835-1133 and ask for Amanda Riley.
