BAKERSFIELD, CA - Houchin Blood Bank's biggest annual blood drive kicked off Monday.
Houchin officials said 252 people registered and about 200 units were taken in. This is short of their 260 unit goal but still a great haul for the blood bank that is running low.
This was the 8th annual mobile blood drive. Houchin Blood Bank holds this drive every summer outside our KGET studios. Houchin said during summer vacation, supplies run low because it is summer vacation and high school drives are on hiatus.
Houchin said right now it's at 51 percent of the supplies needed with all blood types needed.
"One unit of blood can save two or three lives, and what other time can you do that and not be in the medical field and make a difference in someone's life?," said Tracy Hunter, Houchin Blood Bank.
If you did not get a chance to donate Monday, you still have three more opportunities.
