A man is charged with murder in a crash that killed the daughter of a Kern County firefighter.
Authorities say 45-year-old Marvin Hicks led Sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase through Palmdale last Thursday night and crashed into a car driven by Tina Ruano, the wife of Kern County firefighter Mike Ruano. Their two-year-old daughter, Madison, was in the backseat.
All three were rushed to the hospital but the little girl died just a few hours later.
"The child was in the rear passenger seat, properly secured but the force of the impact was so severe, it hit directly in the passenger doors so it was quite a blow," said Sgt. Paul Pfrehm.
Tina Ruano suffered multiple injuries, including a broken vertebra in her back.
Kern County firefighters are rallying around the Ruano family. A donation fund has been set up and the money donated will go toward the memorial service for Madison Ruano as well as support for the long road to recovery for Tina.
Donations can be made to the family through www.youcaring.com in care of baby Madison Ruano.
