MATHER, CA - California State Geologist John Parrish, chief of the California Geological Survey spoke at a Governor's Office of Emergency Services press conference regarding the Bay Area earthquake.

He said that there have been approximately 50 to 60 aftershocks throughout the day of varying magnitudes.

Currently, six aftershocks are listed as above 2.5 magnitude on the United States Geological Survey website.

The largest aftershock was 3.6 in magnitude.

Officials expect aftershocks for the next several weeks, gradually decreasing in magnitude.

Parrish said that they now find it unlikely that a large followup quake will occur.
