County supervisors will hold a CountyBudget meeting for the upcoming year tonight, and the $25.8 million cost of keeping KernMedicalCenter afloat is affecting how funds are dispersed to everything else.
CountyAdministrative Officer John Nilon said that despite cost reductions for most departments, the proposed budget for the next year does not include layoffs or significant cuts in county programs.
The county faces an increased contribution to the pension fund as well as the cost of equipping a new jail facility.
One proposition on the table is a potential half-cent sales tax increase in an attempt to lessen the impact of an additional $20 million dollars in cost.
The meeting will be held tonight, Aug. 25, at 6 p.m. at the Board of Supervisors Chambers. Public comments are welcome.
