World War II veteran and 2010 Honor Flight passenger Austin Daniel dies

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.– The first World War II veteran sent to our nation’s capital by American Legion Riders Post 26 has died.

Austin Daniel, 92, had served in the Philippines as a foot soldier in the 124^th infantry.

He was awarded the Bronze Star in November of 2006, more than 60 years after serving in World War II.

A service is scheduled for Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at HillcrestMemorial Park.
