You've probably heard of the annual toy run where Bakersfield motorcyclists rev up their engines and deliver toys to children in need. This weekend, we met a group on horseback spreading Christmas cheer. On a quiet trail just northeast of Bakersfield, they're saddled up and ready to deliver some holiday cheer.
Patrick Osorio is the organizer for the 1st annual Horse Toy Run. "I rode horses through the actual Bakersfield Toy Run a couple years ago. Then last year, before my mom passed away, we had talked about a little toy run by horseback," said Osorio. It's the first toy run of it's kind in Kern County.
"I think it's about time we did this in Bakersfield since there's so many horse people here. Not just motorcycles, horses," said Pat Harmon.
The horses are dressed as Dasher, Dancer, and Prancer; decked out in antlers, garland, and shiny red bows. Instead of flying, these reindeer will trot in a two-hour journey to deliver toys to local children in need, just in time for Christmas.
"We're going to do it again next year and I would expect double, if not triple the people you see here," said Osorio.
