BAKERSFIELD, CA - Retired Bakersfield Police Chief Eric Matlock died earlier Thursday afternoon after a battle with cancer.
According to a city memo from Police Chief Greg Williamson, Matlock worked in every division of the police department in his 33 years.
He joined the department in 1970 and worked his way up to assistant police chief before being appointed chief in 1999.
He retired in 2004 at the age of 55.
