Another officer-involved shooting investigation is ongoing Friday morning, this time involving the Sheriff's Department.
The Sheriff's Department said around 10 o'clock Thursday night, Senior Deputy Robert Reed noticed a stolen vehicle and tried to pull over the driver near Sterling and Williams Street in east Bakersfield. Officials say the driver, identified as 21-year-old Adolfo Rivera, Jr. didn't stop and the senior deputy pursued him.
Rivera eventually lost control of the car near Eucalyptus Drive and the vehicle spun around, eventually facing the deputy's patrol car head-on.
"It was at that point the two vehicles were basically nose to nose. When the deputy began exiting his vehicle, the suspect's vehicle accelerated and struck his vehicle head on," said Ray Pruitt with the Kern County Sheriff's Dept.
Deputy Reed says Rivera struck his car so the deputy fired one shot, hitting the Rivera's windshield. Rivera was not hit and the pursuit then continued until Rivera gave up and was arrested.
He was taken to a hospital for minor injuries not related to the shooting and was later taken to jail. Deputy Reed was not injured.
