BAKERSFIELD, CA - Three local child guidance clinics are expected to re-open today, after a violent threat prompted their closures yesterday.
The Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic closed three of its offices on Jan. 22, two in Bakersfield and one in Delano.
Staff members said an unknown caller left a threatening message Tuesday night on the office voicemail.
The message was reportedly violent, indicating a planned attack on the clinic would happen yesterday.
Clinic representatives said they closed the offices to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
"We don't know if the threat was ever planned to be followed through, if it was just intended to unnerve our staff, unnerve our clients -- we don't know, but it's not worth taking the risk," said Joshua Sullivan.
"It was just a male voice that sounded possibly intoxicated and made threats against the center. I won't be specific about what those threats were," said BPD SGT Joe Grubbs.
Bakersfield police are investigating who made the threat and say they have added extra patrols.
The clinics are expected to reopen on Friday.
