BAKERSFIELD, CA - In recent years, the City of Bakersfield has worked to revitalize part of Old Town Kern with new commercial and residential development. Wednesday night, council members took another step forward.

The council voted to re-zone a nearly one-and-a-half acre parcel on the west side of Baker Street between Kentucky and Lake Streets. The plan is to build a community center in the old Cornet building and 50 affordable homes next to it.

Changing the zoning from commercial development to commercial center ensures the city won't lose more than three million dollars in federal funds.
