BAKERSFIELD, CA - CSUB athletic director Jeff Konya is staying in Bakersfield, agreeing to to a 5-year extension after removing his name from consideration for the athletic director job at Cal State Northridge.
"After discussion with the leadership at Cal State Bakersfield, I knew this is where I wanted to be long term and I know have that opportunity to build on all the success that we have had," said Konya.
Konya has been the CSUB athletic director for just over 2 years, taking over for Rudy Carvajal in January of 2011 when Carvajal retired after 38 years.
Konya says he has had several schools show interest in him but he in no way has been looking to leave.
A CSUB source says Konya did not receive a raise, just the 5-year extension that gives him long-term stability with the program.
