Danielle Mailloux's attorney Mark Raimondo says the 25-year old woman was suffering from post partum depression when she stabbed her new born baby in May 2011.

Court records show the mother was also a meth addict, and was high at the time of the stabbing.

One year ago a judge sentenced Mailloux to an eight-year suspended prison sentence and a one year program for parental counseling and drug rehabilitation.  "She is almost done with the program and is about to be released, to go home to her family, says Raimondo.

"I think it was a wise and brave decision by Judge Brehmer to give her another opportunity. She had no prior record, she was suffering from a severe mental illness, that is treatable and I think her progress so far has shown the judge to be a very wise man," adds Raimondo.

Mailloux will be back in court in March for a status conference hearing.   Post partum depression follows child birth and reportedly affects about 25 percent of new mothers nationwide.
