BAKERSFIELD, CA - Thousands of job seekers crowded into the Marriott Hotel in downtown Bakersfield Tuesday morning for Job Fest 2013.

It's an annual job fair, bringing together dozens of employers looking to hire. The event is put on by the Department of Human Services.

Thousands of people lined up hours early hoping to snag an interview and perhaps, new employment.

More than 90 employers were on hand with a combined 1,100 positions available in a variety of fields, including medical, hospitality, and skilled labor.

With the unemployment rate at 9.5 percent in Bakersfield, thousands lined up early, hoping to be among the first to talk to potential employers.

James Horn arrived at 6:30 in the morning.

"I'm currently employed right now, but I am trying to find something better to where it meets my skills and something I can use and expand for the future," said Horn.

"Locally, we believe in the economy and putting people to work. So, literally there are hundreds of jobs available. We are just looking for the right worker. It's important to have the proper certifications, clean driver's license, a nice resume that tells employers about your work skills," said Leo Bautista with Rain for Rent.

Organizers also held a workshop with tips on navigating a job fair and securing a job.

If you missed Tuesday's job fair, you still have a chance to get your application in.

The Lake Isabella Job Fest takes place Wednesday, May 15th from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lake Isabella Senior Center, 6405 Lake Isabella Blvd.

There will be 19 employers present. Organizers say come dressed professionally and bring 20 copies of your resume.

You can also visit www.kcdhs.org for a list of the employers hiring.
