BAKERSFIELD, CA- A new Gallup poll shows people who live in Bakersfield are among the least likely in the country to feel safe.

That makes Bakersfiled the city with the third highest rate in the nation of people who do not feel safe and secure.

Less than 64% of adults living in each of three California communities -- Fresno, Stockton-Lodi and Bakersfield -- agree they always feel safe and secure, making these residents the least likely to feel safe among the 100 most populous U.S. metropolitan areas.

California is not the only state with multiple communities among the lowest 10 in reports of safety and security. Two Ohio metropolitan areas appear on the list: Toledo and the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman community, which straddles the Ohio-Pennsylvania border. In Florida, two communities rank ninth and tenth, respectively: Lakeland-Winter Haven and Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach.

The 10 communities where residents are least likely to agree they feel safe are rounded out by fourth-ranked Memphis, Tennessee -- which also includes areas in Mississippi and Arkansas -- seventh-ranked Las Vegas, Nevada, and eighth-ranked New Orleans, Louisiana.

These findings are based on data collected throughout 2014 as part of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. Nationally, more than three in four Americans (76.5%) responded with a 4 or 5 rating on a 5-point scale. A 5 rating indicates respondents strongly agreed that they always feel safe and secure, and 1 rating means they strongly disagreed. Among the bottom 10, less than 70% of residents in these areas agreed they felt safe, whereas in the 10 communities where residents felt safest, at least 81.5% of residents agreed they felt this way.

Residents of Des Moines, Iowa, top the list where residents feel safest, with 85.7% agreeing that they always feel safe and secure, inching out Raleigh, North Carolina, at 84.8%, and Boise City, Idaho, at 84.5%.

BAKERSFIELD, CA - Bakersfield police are investigating a fiery crash that killed a 33-year-old mother early Sunday morning.

Police say the vehicle was so mangled by the force of that crash, they aren't sure if anyone else was inside the car.

The Kern County Coroner's Office has not released the victim's name, but close friends and co-workers say she's Leanne Longcrier.

It was a fiery and deadly scene around 1:40 a.m. Sunday at Coffee Road and Granite Falls Drive in northwest Bakersfield.

A burned-out car almost unrecognizable was seen wrapped around a tree.

"People are just absolutely in denial and shock," said co-worker and friend Kelli Somers.

Monday afternoon, Somers remembered her friend Leanne Longcrier as a strong, caring woman.

Somers says she learned about the crash Sunday from Longcrier's best friend.

"I still don't believe it, I still really don't. There aren't even words to describe the loss and it's unbelievable," said Somers.

Bakersfield police say for unknown reasons, the car veered onto the center median and struck three trees, then burst into flames.

Longcrier's friends say it was rare for the mother of two to be out that late.

"She was never out, it was rare. You'd never hear her say- oh, I was out and about this weekend and I went here. No, she was home, she was with the kids, she was at work - that's it," said Somers.

Longrier's friends say she worked at the Foods Co. on Haley Street five days a week.

They say on Sunday and Monday, she worked as a bartender at The "Wright Place" on Mt. Vernon Avenue.

"She radiated good energy, sunshine. She always had a smile, was the first to greet you - how's your day going, how are you. You just fell in love with her, you couldn't help it," said Somers.

Friends of the 33-year-old say she was a devoted mother and worked hard to support her young children.

"I think that's the first that you would recognize - is how amazing she was as a mother and talked about them all the time, she loved them," Somers continued.

Officers say it's not known if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

If you have any information, call police at 661-327-7111.

The online petition was created for parents and other community members to sign asking the Kern High School District Board of Trustees to keep him as principal of Mira Monte High School.

Quiñónez's attorney, Gabriel Godínez advised his client to not speak about the issue. "We want to see what happens at this meeting this evening, so there is no need to comment until there is action taken," said Godínez.

Godínez said he will be make sure no laws are broken during the public comment section of the board meeting. "Certainly they can listen but to engage in the issue in a public forum, I believe is a Brown violation and we just want to make sure they do things the right way," said Godínez.

We spoke with the Kern High School District's Public Information Officer, Lisa Krch. She says the district will not comment. Godínez said once they complete the investigation they will have a better idea of what's next for Quiñónez. "We have done everything we can do to assert his rights and then at the appropriate time the school district will give a response, which ever way that goes," said Godínez.

Both sides say they will present their opinions at the meeting. If you would like to attend it starts at 7 p.m. at the district's office, 5801 Sundale Avenue in Bakersfield.

Relay for Life is a worldwide phenomenon with Bakersfield's relay being one of the biggest and for someone like Lynne Wood who walked it for the first time as a survivor, a life changing experience. "In 24-years this relay for life has raised over 21-million dollars, that's 21-million dollars of Bakersfield giving to their own," said McCloud. Raising over a million dollars this year, all for research. "One in three people will be affected by cancer, take a look to the right to the left, one of you will have cancer touch your life in someway, our job is to make that one in four, one in five, and then maybe never again," said McCloud.
