BAKERSFIELD - A pedestrian was hit and killed Thursday night in southeast Bakersfield.
CHP officers say the 59-year-old woman was crossing Cottonwood Road near Cheatham Avenue just before 10 p.m., when she was hit.
The driver took off. Officers say the driver was speeding, and the woman was not in a crosswalk. The victim died at the scene.
Her name was not immediately released.
This is the 23rd pedestrian killed in Kern County this year. Twenty-six pedestrians were killed on Kern County roads in all of last year.
