BAKERSFIELD, CA -- Bakersfield Police have arrested a suspect they say robbed a woman and held her against her will, using a gun. On August 15, 2013, at approximately 12:19 p.m., Bakersfield Police officers responded to the Herbalife store, at 1215 Columbus Street for an armed robbery.
When officers arrived, they learned the suspect held the victim against her will inside the business. During the offense, the suspect fled the business on foot with the victim’s purse and items of value.
The investigation led to identification of the suspect as 26-year-old Matthew Najera. When officers located and made contact with Najera, he violently resisted arrest, injuring an officer. Najera then fled from the officers and discarded a gun, believed to have been used in the robbery.
Officers were able to locate and arrest Najera for robbery, false imprisonment, resisting arrest, felony assault on an officer, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and possession of stolen property.
