MCFARLAND - A father and son were gunned down in their McFarland home late Tuesday night, and now the search is on for the masked intruder who killed them.
The attack took place in the 31000 block of Sherwood Avenue near Garzoli Avenue.
The victims are identified as 53-year-old Fernando Valdez and 29-year-old Fernando Valdez, Jr.
Sheriff's officials say they found the men inside the home, lying near the front door.
Other relatives also live on the property, but say they didn't hear anything.
"Yeah, I feel bad, but I don't know if I would've been able to do anything. My brother was a good person. He didn't have any enemies," said Ismael Valdez.
"We have not identified any suspects at this point. We're looking for the public for any information," said Sgt. Avery Simpson, Kern County Sheriff's Department.
Fernando Valdez Sr. was a labor contractor in McFarland. Co-workers say he was well-liked and respected.
His son, Fernando Valdez, Jr., was a real estate agent in Bakersfield. People who worked with him at the Re/Max Magic office on New Stine Road were understandably shocked to learn of his death.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 861-3110. You can also remain anonymous by calling the Secret Witness hotline at 322-4040.
