TEHACHAPI, CA - Marley's Mutts is known for rehabilitating dogs who need a little extra love. With the help of his Mutt Militia, Zack Skow and his organization are exceeding expectations and looking to expand.
Marley's Mutts is a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabs and adopts out dogs that would otherwise be euthanized at the animal shelter.
Skow said, "With a canine education and community center like this we'll be able to better equip Kern County and our public with knowledge about their dogs so they can keep their dogs, so that they can have more fun with their dogs, so that they can learn from their dogs."
He says the Miracle Mutts Rescue, Rehabilitation and Community Education Center will take the organization to the next level.
"It's really a place where we can focus on job training, on canine training, on rescue, all of the things that we do currently, but elaborate on those things," said Skow.
He's hoping to buy this five acre property overlooking Brite Lake in Tehachapi.
Skow said, "We can create pack running opportunities, pack hiking opportunities. So many different ways to get people and dogs active together and really help people better understand their animals."
Plans for the facility include swimming pools, fitness components and training space.
Skow said, "Nurturing this bond that canines and humans have and having it help people with everything from anxiety to, like we talked about earlier, post traumatic stress, or physical handicaps."
All in an effort to help animals and people grow together.
"We have all the tools, we just need to implement it," said Skow.
So far, Marley's Mutts raised $6,000 of the half million dollars needed to buy the property and get the facility going. They've secured a grant to match donations, up to $100,000.
