BAKERSFIELD, CA-- California Governor Jerry Brown stopped in Bakersfield Friday to meet with local leaders in petroleum, clean energy and law enforcement.
The governor has a small window of opportunity to meet with industry leaders before starting to prepare for next year's state budget that is why he held private meetings in Bakersfield.
Governor Brown says securing California's energy future is a high priority and he spoke with us about the controversial issue of fracking.
"Fracking has been going on since 1955 in some places and is certainly something that has brought a lot of oil that could not otherwise be recovered so it has been an important part of the process," Governor Brown said.
He also met with local law enforcement to get their feedback on prison realignment and issues of releasing felons early into communities like Bakersfield.
The governor is gathering as much information as he can as he prepares the budget and prepares his state of the state address which usually happens in late January.
