BAKERSFIELD,CA-- While you're watching rubber burn at the 2014 Bakersfield March Meet, CIF wrestling or the 3-Way Chevrolet Bakersfield Tennis Open, Bakersfield businesses will be seeing dollar signs.
"This is one of our biggest weekends in Bakersfield," said David Lyman, manager of the Bakersfield Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Lyman says the three events will bring an additional 23,000 people into the city.
"This weekend will be bringing an additional $5 million to Bakersfield this weekend conservatively."
Lyman says local restaurants and hotels will be cashing in.
"It's very difficult in Bakersfield to try and get a room at this particular weekend," said Jenny Gatlin, general manager at the Marriott Courtyard.
Gatlin says all 146 rooms are booked, rooms that started to sell out six to eight months ago. The hotel books anywhere from 40-75 rooms on a non eventful weekend.
"With us being around all the hotels, we've definitely noticed an increase in business," said server at Hungry Hunter Steakhouse Kenneth Lawless.
Hungry hunter Steakhouse is walking distance from at least five hotels on Rosedale Highway.
"When we have people coming into Bakersfield they are spending money, they are keeping people employed. Those dollars are going out to generate more tax revenue. They are keeping businesses in business," said Lyman.
