BAKERSFIELD, CA - Bakersfield Animal Control is asking for help identifying the person or persons responsible for the apparent intentional abuse of a dog, and Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to those responsible.

"This kind of animal cruelty is unacceptable and we will not stand for it anymore.  We are sick of it, and we have to do something about it," said Director of Spay and Neuter for Marley's Mutts Jacqueline Cameron.

At 10:40 Tuesday morning, an injured Labrador mix was brought into the animal care center on South Mt. Vernon Avenue. The Bakersfield Police department says that it appeared that somebody intentionally inserted a spring-clasp into the animal's right rear leg, behind the Achilles tendon. Police say the clasp is similar to those found on dog-chains or leashes.  The veterinarian at the animal care center believes the clasp to have been in the dog's leg for approximately five to seven days.

The clasp was removed and the wound, along with others found on the dog, was treated.

Representatives from Marley's Mutts have taken the dog into their care for rehabilitation, with hopes of setting the dog up for adoption.

BPD says that anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call the Bakersfield Animal Care Center at 661-832-7387.

If you have information to share, you can email Marley's Mutts at Inquires@MarleysMutts.com.
