BAKERSFIELD, CA. - Officers with the California Highway Patrol have taken a father into custody today after a standoff in connection with an Amber Alert issued over four missing Montebello children.
The arrest followed a dramatic standoff on a San Diego-area freeway.
Police had been desperately searching for the father and his four boys from Montebello today, a day after a woman's body turned up in the trunk of the family's car.
Officials are not saying it's the boy's mother, though they said her husband was a person of interest in that case
Shortly before 9 a.m., El Cajon police officers located the vehicle matching the car's description and license plate and initiated a pursuit, which CHP eventually took over, according to authorities.
Two of the boys ran from the vehicle to officers.
SWAT vehicles were brought in and moments later, 39-year old Daniel Perez exited the vehicle with his remaining two children.
