BAKERSFIELD, CA - A Bakersfield couple is suing a Fresno State fraternity and six of its members after their son died in an alcohol-related hazing incident last year.
Philip Dhanens, an 18-year-old Garces graduate and Fresno State freshman, was a pledge at Theta Chi fraternity when authorities say he and other pledges were put in a room and instructed to drink excessive amounts of alcohol.
Dhanens later passed out and died.
Attorneys have filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of Paul and Diane Dhanens. They are seeking unspecified damages.
Last week, authorities charged three CSU Fresno fraternity brothers with hazing and providing alcohol to an underage person.
